Resumo

O transtorno relacionado ao uso de álcool é uma das principais causas de doença hepática avançada, hospitalização e morte relacionadas ao fígado em todo o mundo. A hepatite alcoólica grave é a entidade clínica associada à esteato-hepatite pelo álcool, com alta mortalidade em curto prazo. Até então, a corticoterapia tem sido o tratamento padrão, porém com eficácia limitada e muitos efeitos colaterais. Nenhum outro tratamento tem consistentemente mostrado benefício na sobrevida. Neste artigo, serão revisados os conceitos atuais sobre a epidemiologia, fisiopatologia, diagnóstico e tratamento da hepatite alcoólica grave.
